We are excited to welcome Justin Shields to the PPS team! With more than two decades of diverse experience across electrical contracting, project management, and government work, Justin brings a wealth of knowledge and a collaborative spirit to his new role as an Estimator at PPS.
Born in Framingham, Massachusetts, Justin spent most of his formative years in Grand Forks, North Dakota, graduating from Grand Forks Central High School in 1996. He attended the University of Minnesota–Duluth before earning an Associate of Applied Science in Industrial Electronics from Northland Technical College. A few years after graduating, a family connection brought him to Boston, where he began his electrical career as an apprentice in a residential and commercial electrical shop—laying the groundwork for a long and varied journey in the industry.
Justin’s career has taken him from the bustling streets of Boston to the rugged oilfields of Western North Dakota. Over the years, he’s worn many hats—including electrician, mud logger, assistant project manager, and estimator. His experience spans everything from residential and commercial electrical work to managing large-scale transportation and telecom projects. Most recently, Justin has focused on estimating and managing government contracts, further refining his skill set in this highly specialized space.
What drew Justin to PPS was the organization’s strong structure and capable team—qualities that stood out to him in an industry known for its moving parts. After joining, he quickly recognized that he had made the right decision. “While nothing is perfect, especially in construction,” he says, “PPS stood out as a company that is well organized and has the right people in place to execute government work.”
Justin’s favorite part of the job is collaborating with fellow estimators to put together effective, competitive bids. While he appreciates the focused work of building an estimate solo, it’s the teamwork and problem-solving with colleagues that makes the work truly rewarding.
Outside of work, Justin enjoys hands-on home projects, relaxing beach days, and playing the guitar. He and his wife, Kristi, made the move from Minnesota to Florida’s panhandle in 2021 and have been enjoying the sunshine ever since—but they’ll always consider Minnesota home at heart.
